I take it then, just closing the whole browser(s) and opening them again doesn't fix the issue?

Sometimes, the computer can be "doing something" in background, and then suddenly it needs to be in the "foreground", but it doesn't need the monitor and so it chugs along, eating up CPU time and slowing things down (Screen savers are nortorious for this).

I am suspecting that is more hardware related, like the mouse and keyboard and the browser don't like each other. Everything has a driver now, and if it doesn't talk nice the other pieces, it gets ignored, which essential means you get ignored.

Try this if next time it happens, don't close the browser, but go to your "word pad" and open it. Try typing in there; anything it doesn't matter, though I use the old a "A quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs back" just for shits and grins. If you typing fine, don't close the word pad, but jump over to webpage and try typing again. If it works, then I would say something was eating up your CPU time cause it thought the computer was idle.

If it doesn't try typing in word pad, and then try to cut and paste the info you want to type. This checks the clipboard, and the mouse buttons, and other things. You could even try (and this sometimes works with certain webpages that have cut and paste turned off) use the Ctrl - C (copy), Ctrl - V (Paste) sequence and that will test to see if your keyboard is still function, or is it not.

My first guess is check the power setting for the computer. See if there is a "time" set for turning off things like Hard Drives, and other devices. Turn them to never, and no hibernate. That would be in your 'Display Properties" (go to your desktop (on the computer) Right mouse click on the screen, not on an Icon. Choose Properties from the pop up menu, then go to screen saver, there you will see a "Power" button, you click on the that and you can set your power settings. Other programs can mess with this, including MS, if you don't watch it.
